Gerry and Ruth Gutierrez
Serving in Peru
Gerry and Ruthie Gutierrez are involved in a word and deed ministry, caring for orphans, feeding the hungry, giving blankets to the children dying of cold in the upper Andes Mts., as well as mentoring and discipline young people (and pastors of other denominations), preaching and teaching, working in the prayer breakfast movement with authorities, leaders and VIP’s and now trying to begin a new ministry recording sermons for the radio.
Gerry was born in Huanta, Peru. He graduated from the National University de San Cristobal de Huamanga of Ayacucho with a BA. in Philosophy and Psychology and a teacher’s certificate in Social Science.
Since Gerry surrender his life to the Lord, he has had the strong conviction that surrender implies service. He attended Columbia International University for preparation to return to friends and former comrades in the university where he had once been general secretary of the Student Revolutionary Front. During this time he was elected president of the executive committee of the Association of Evangelical University groups of Peru.
Ruth was born in Columbia, South Carolina, but grew up in Peru, the daughter of missionaries. Since childhood she was involved in her parents’ ministry and has always had a desire to serve the Lord in Peru. She graduated from Columbia Bible College with B.A. in Biblical Education and took courses in Peruvian language and literature at Cornell and the University of Delaware. Gerry and Ruth worked from 1974 to 1978 among university students in Peru before going to St Louis, Missouri, where Gerry received an ETTA teacher’s diploma and his Master in Divinity from Covenant Theological Seminary in May, 1982. Gerry was ordained in March, 1984.
The Gutierrezes worked in Las Condes, Chile, from 1984 to 1987 as church planters. From 1987 to 1996 they worked in and from Washington DC among the Diplomatic Community as the Washington Representative and Director of International Relations for Mission to the World. Gerry help to coordinate the Presidential Prayer Breakfast movement in Central Asia, Russia, North Africa and Latin America.
The Gutierrezes returned to Peru in 1996 where Gerry is working with the Project Nehemiah Corporation in a “Word and Deed Ministry” helping Quechua children orphaned as a result of the terrorist activities of The Shining Path. He is also involved in the prayer breakfast movement and the mentoring of young people.
